The Green Restaurant Association (GRA) is a national non-profit organization that was founded in 1990 – back when “green” was just a color. The goal of the organization is to help restaurants decrease their impact on the environment. In order to meet the GRA’s Certification Standards, restaurants must earn GreenPoints™ across the GRA’s Environmental Categories: Energy, Water, Waste, Disposables, Chemical & Pollution Reduction, Sustainable Food, and Sustainable Building Materials.
In February 2010, One Atlantic started working with the Green Restaurant Association. A year later, in February 2011, One Atlantic became a 2 Star Certified Green Restaurant®, and in February 2017 upgraded to become a 3 Star Certified Green Restaurant®.
We are ecstatic to be a Certified Green Restaurant® in New Jersey. This recognition allows One Atlantic to provide another unique aspect to customers at our venue—from green weddings to corporate events. We love that we can now bring this additional level of distinctive guest experience.
In accordance with the GRA’s Certification standards, 3 Star Certified Green Restaurants® must meet a minimum of 150 points in six of seven key environmental categories. To achieve this significant milestone, One Atlantic earned 175.67 points and completed 38 steps, including:
- Implementing a full-scale recycling program, significantly decreasing the restaurant’s landfill waste
- Installing an Energy Star rated reach-in, ice machine, dish machine, and office equipment
- Purchasing 15% of their monthly foods from vegetarian sources
- Using low-flow spray valves on their hand washing and prep sinks, which save thousands of gallons of water and significant energy
