Things to Do While in Atlantic City

Atlantic City New Jersey has come a long way since the era of Boardwalk Empire and has shed its layers of prohibition to become an entertainment mecca for the Northeastern coast. Situated just 60 miles outside Philadelphia, Atlantic City has grown in many ways to satisfy every member for your family. Here are 9 things you can find yourself and your family enjoying during your trip to Atlantic City.

Historic Landmarks
South Jersey is a gold mine when it comes to historical landmarks. In Atlantic City alone, you will find Absecon Lighthouse, which your family will love to walk up the 228 steps to see Atlantic City like never before, and Boardwalk Hall, Home of Miss America Pageant, as well as the world’s largest organ. Boardwalk Hall also hosts many different acts and shows throughout the year. You can also catch the light show on Boardwalk hall every night!
A little further out in our neighboring island town of Margate, is the famous Lucy the Elephant, yes she is really an Elephant! There are daily tours to visit and tour Lucy, formally a hotel, trust us the kids will love it.

Depending on what you are looking for, Atlantic City has something to offer. In the famous Gardener’s Basin you will find the Atlantic City Aquarium, great for a day with the kids, surrounding the Aquarium in the summer time you will find small shops of local vendors and even a few restaurants.
More of an Art Lover? There is the Noyes Arts Garage right in the city. See all of our wonderful local artists’ work, and even get to chat with them in their shop!
Also located on the Atlantic City Boardwalk is Ripley’s Believe it or Not. Learn fun facts and see the unusual right on the boardwalk.

Arts and Entertainment
While all of the Casinos offer shows there are local theaters for the play lovers. A few miles up the road is Stockton University which holds several in house productions throughout the year, it also hosts many more companies traveling through. About a half hour from Atlantic City, is the Eagle Theater producing many favorites that are sure to please all members of your family! Don’t want to leave the city? Dante Hall also has local productions for the guest in the area.
Over the 4 mile strip of the Boardwalk there are many casinos offering dining, gambling, shows and entertainment. In addition, there are 3 additional casinos in the inlet of Atlantic City. All casinos have different themes such as old Havana, Roman Empire, or Wild West to keep your interest throughout your stay.

There is no denying the beach. This is an easy and relaxed day with your family and friends catching a few rays and enjoying each other’s company. Fun fact, Atlantic City’s beaches are free! Not a common occurrence on the Jersey Beaches, but we are not complaining.
Best part, there are beach bars throughout the city where you are able to grab a drink and a quick bite before hitting the water again.
If you always wanted to learn how to surf, there are several schools in the city that would love to teach you, be sure to do your homework and get it all set up for your trip.

Night Life
Throughout the city you will find bars, nightclubs and dancing, each with a different feel and a different theme. From bull riding to tequilas, from around the world to celebrity visits the nightlife in Atlantic City has something for you.
The Boardwalk
Atlantic City is known for its 4 mile stretch of boardwalk running between the beach and the hotels and casinos. Take a stroll and explore the casinos, stores and restaurants. On the boardwalk there are trams which will stop at all of the casinos for visitors to move through the city effortlessly. Also on the boardwalk you will find the famous Steel Pier with rides, games that will honor the heyday of Atlantic City.

This does involve a little traveling but don’t worry, no more than a half hour or so! Head down to Cape May and enjoy a day in the historic town and visit the many wineries that town has to offer. Is the mainland calling your name? Head inland a half hour on the expressway to Hammonton and experience all of the wineries in that area. Check out the local tour groups, many of them offer a wine day.

In Atlantic City there are several different shopping options available to visitors. The Walk provides outlets and shopping tax free on clothing. Throughout the casinos you will also find shopping to satisfy all members of the family. Right below One Atlantic Events you will find several shops in The Playground, too!
